Uzbekistan plans to install elevators in four- and five-storey residential buildings

A program is being developed in Uzbekistan to install elevators in residential buildings up to five stories high. This was announced by representatives of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services at a press conference on July 8 at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications in response to journalists' questions.

As noted by Aziz Khalilov, head of a department at the ministry, there are 14,637 four-story and 7,541 five-story buildings across the country. According to him, ministry experts studied international experience, including in Austria, Germany, Finland, and Estonia, where elevators are already being installed in buildings of similar height.

Deputy Minister Ozoda Juraeva confirmed that appeals from the public, especially from people with disabilities, served as an incentive for the development of the program.

At the same time, Khalilov clarified that before installing elevators in low-rise buildings, the issue with elevators in taller buildings must first be addressed. According to an inventory conducted in 5,491 apartment buildings, of the 13,798 elevators, the service life of 2,001 has already expired, and another 382 require repairs.

It was previously reported that 854.6 billion UZS will be allocated from local budgets for the replacement and repair of these elevators.

Only after that will the implementation of the program to install new elevators in buildings up to five stories begin.
