The Senate of Uzbekistan approved the law on urban renovation
Senate of the Oliy Majlis of UzbekistanapprovedLaw "On Urban Development Renovation". The document lays out the legal basis for large-scale renovation of the urban environment, including the replacement of seismically vulnerable and physically worn-out buildings, as well as the modernization of utility networks.
For property owners, there are four forms of compensation to choose from - receiving new housing on the same territory, providing another facility, cash payment or other forms by agreement of the parties. Additionally, the law guarantees payment of 12 percent of the total amount of compensation for inconvenience caused.
The law enshrines the principle of information openness - all renovation programs will be published on a special electronic platform and in the media. Any legal ambiguities or contradictions with government agencies are interpreted in favor of the owner.
Separate protection is provided for socially vulnerable citizens. During the work, residents are guaranteed the provision of prepared housing or rental compensation. For people with limited mobility, special living conditions are provided during relocation.
The meeting was held in Tashkent under the leadership of Senate Chairman Tanzila Narbaeva. The approved document is sent to the president for signature.
