From benches to facades. A unified city design code has been approved in Tashkent
Kengash of People`s Deputies officiallyapprovedTashkent design code is a large-scale set of rules that sets uniform standards for the external appearance of the capital. The document covers everything from store signs and building facades to the color of benches and paving slabs. The decision will come into force three months after publication.
Now any intervention in the appearance of the city must meet new standards. This applies to the reconstruction of buildings, installation of advertising structures and even seasonal cafes. The design code, developed by SM International for Tashkent Invest, is aimed at reducing “visual noise” and creating a harmonious urban environment.
The system of obligations is distributed between business and government.
For businesses and building owners, compliance with the code will be mandatory: all new projects - from entrance signage to major renovations - will be checked for compliance with the standards.
District khokimiyats during
two months must prepare detailed diagrams of the boundaries of public spaces under the control of chief architects. The city has a program to replace all address signs and navigation elements with uniform standards in the next four months.
It is expected that the implementation of the design code will make it possible to systematically develop tourist and gastronomic streets and introduce uniform rules for landscaping and sanitary cleaning.
Monitoring compliance with the rules will be carried out by the Council on Architecture and Urban Planning, which will ensure that even temporary structures do not violate the overall aesthetics of the renewed Tashkent.
